The next step after figuring out the bodice pattern was to create the petticoat. The top layer is 3 tiers of tulle (each 8" wide). The upper most tier is 3 yards of fabric, the middle is 6 yards, and the lower tier is 9 yards. I finished the edge with a folded satin ribbon, so that if it shows while the bride is moving or dancing, it will look pretty and finished.
Underneath the first layer is a second layer. This one has only two tiers: the top one measures 10" wide, and the bottom is 12". The top tier is a gathered 2 yards of tulle, and the lower is a gathered 4 yards. I finished this layer off with a polyester horsehair braid in the hem, to give it more volume and stability.
