Castles Made of Tulle
My friends Andrea and Andre are getting married in August. They've decided that they're going to plan their wedding and the entire celebration around a "vintage-carnival" theme. Andrea wants the colors to be light blue and pink, with a flash of bright red.
While planning for the bridesmaids outfits is exciting, it's also very challenging. Andrea and Andre are both LDS, and having a traditional Mormon wedding in the San Diego temple. Although I've never been there, from what I can see from the pictures, it's basically the Castle in the Magic Kingdom at Disneyworld--which..is...awesome.
Because of strict Mormon traditions, both the wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses should not be revealing at all, and should include sleeves. Acknowledging that it would be difficult to find such dresses, Andrea and I have decided it would be easy, fun and inexpensive to make skirts and find tops to match. The skirts will be a few simple gathered yards of tulle attached to a thick elastic waist. Andrea is choosing the shirts that we'll all wear, and then I'll make all the skirts to complete the outfits. Like the rest of the wedding, the dresses will be light blue, pink and red.
This skirt is similar to the ones that I'll be making, except it isn't as puffy or fancy as the ones I'm planning to make. Photos of the designs to come!
She also wants to make headbands for the bridesmaids that match the outfits. These bunched fabric, flowery headbands are what she's thinking she wants, so we'll use the tulle scraps from the skirts and her wedding dress to make the headband details.
I assume no ownership of these photos. They have been found through search engines and compiled here to show examples.
